I spent fifteen years on institutional trading desks before I walked away and I can tell you that the order flow in TSLA does not look like organic demand. Tesla Inc. is being accumulated by algorithms and passive flows, not by fundamental buyers making conviction based decisions. When the machines decide to rotate the selling will be just as mechanical. The price action looks strong but the foundation is synthetic. I have seen this pattern before. It does not end well for the retail investors who think they are riding institutional coattails.

Nobody is pricing the tail risk in TSLA. Everyone models the base case and the bull case. Nobody models the black swan. Tesla Inc. has concentrated exposure to risks that are low probability but high impact. Regulatory action. Supply chain disruption. Key person dependency. Any one of these hitting would reprice the stock 30 to 50 percent overnight. The probability is low. The impact is catastrophic. When you are priced for perfection the tail risk is where the real danger lives. I am hedging my long exposure with out of the money puts. Insurance is cheap when nothing is going wrong.

anyone comparing tesla to a car company hasnt read the 10-k. energy storage grew 100%. megapack is capacity constrained not demand constrained. but sure keep focusing on vehicle margins

i keep seeing people say fsd is worth trillions. its been "next year" for 8 years now. at what point do we acknowledge its harder than elon thought

robotaxi event pushed to august. again. how many times are we going to let them move the goalposts before the market cares

@energy_transition_bull cool story. energy is 7% of revenue. the other 93% is cars with compressing margins. you cant value a stock on the 7%

I keep seeing people compare Tesla to a car company. It's an energy company with a software subscription model. The Megapack business is growing 100%+ and nobody is modeling that properly.

Robotaxi event pushed to August. FSD v12 is genuinely impressive but regulatory approval will take years. The stock trades on narratives not earnings right now.

CechnicalLhrimp🐻 Bearish37d ago

Q2 deliveries beat but only because of price cuts. Margin compression is the real story. Automotive gross margin ex-regulatory credits is like 14% now compared to 25% two years ago.

My partner bought TSLA at 180 and I thought he was crazy. Now at 250 he's up 40% and I'm the one who looks dumb. Lesson learned, don't doubt conviction buys.

TSLA IV is still elevated even post-earnings. Selling covered calls against my shares at 300 strike for next month. If it gets called away I'm fine taking profits at that level.

TSLA at 50 P/E with auto margins compressing and China EV makers eating their lunch globally. BYD just passed them in global EV sales. The robotaxi story is 5 years away minimum. This is a 150 stock at best.

TSLA bouncing off the 200-day moving average at 240. If it holds we could see 280. If it breaks, 220 is next support. RSI at 42, not oversold yet. Sitting on my hands for now.

RuriousCull🐂 Bullish37d ago

Tesla is not a car company. It's an AI, energy, and robotics company. When Optimus goes into production and FSD gets regulatory approval, the TAM is 10x what anyone is modeling. I'm holding until 2030.

Everyone acting like TSLA's bounce off $240 support is some kind of second coming, but I'm not buying it. RSI just crossed back above 50 and bulls are celebrating like we broke out of a multi-month range - we haven't. We're still grinding under the 200-day MA and every rally attempt has been sold into hard. That's distribution, not accumulation. The 50-day is still pointing down. Volume on green days has been underwhelming compared to the red day selloffs. That's not a chart that screams "institutional conviction" to me - that looks like retail FOMO walking into smart money exits. Yeah Musk headlines move it short-term, but the actual flow data tells a different story from the hype. So here's what I keep coming back to - with TSLA still struggling to reclaim the 200-day MA after multiple failed attempts, what are the institutional positioning data and recent Form 4 insider filings actually signaling about where the $240 level holds or cracks?

Okay hot take incoming - I actually think the bear case on TSLA is stronger right now than most growth bulls want to admit, and I say that as someone who's been long since $180. The problem isn't Elon's distraction or the brand damage (real but priced in imo). It's the multiple. TSLA is still trading at ~70x forward earnings while auto revenue growth basically flatlined YoY. FSD and robotaxi are doing a lot of heavy lifting for a valuation that size - and we've been "one quarter away" from those catalysts for like three years straight. I'm not loading up more here. The AI angle is real and I genuinely believe in the long-term Optimus + autonomy story. But the timeline risk is brutal and the stock price isn't giving you any margin of error. So what's actually the biggest difference between the bull and bear case right now - is it just about whether you believe FSD revenue materializes before that 70x multiple compresses further?

C
CetailEric🐂 Bullish42d ago

TSLA's current implied volatility sitting around 55% is basically the market admitting it has no idea what this stock actually is anymore. I've been watching the options flow and the 30-delta calls are pricing in moves that make zero fundamental sense for a company where automotive gross margins just dipped under 18%. Yet here we are with a forward P/E somewhere north of 80x while legacy OEMs are trading at 5-6x. That gap is enormous. I'm not a perma-bear here - I've played the earnings vol crush myself and made money on it. The robotaxi and AI angle is real enough to trade around. But "real enough to trade" and "justifies 80x earnings" are two very different conversations. The stock's been rangebound near $175-180 for weeks and the IV isn't collapsing - that tells me even the smart money can't agree. So genuinely asking: with TSLA trading at 80x forward earnings while automotive margins are compressing, how much of that multiple is actual business execution vs. pure Elon narrative premium?

I
IatientJustin🐻 Bearish43d ago

Honestly, TSLA at a ~70x forward PE in this macro environment feels like the market is still pricing in 2021 euphoria. VIX has been creeping back up, credit spreads are widening, and rate cuts keep getting pushed out - none of that's friendly for a growth stock that basically needs everything to go right. Margins have been getting compressed with each price cut, deliveries missed last quarter, and the energy/FSD pivot feels more like a narrative patch than a proven revenue engine yet. I'm not saying Tesla's going to zero. The brand still has pull, and Musk can move markets with a tweet. But sitting at ~70x forward earnings while legacy automakers are catching up on EV range and charging infrastructure? That's a lotta faith. Bears feel pretty comfortable here. So genuine question - what single catalyst would actually flip your view on TSLA and make you think that ~70x multiple is actually justified going into a potentially slowing economy?
